Busy

I've kept up the running for three days. I've been helped by not having any plans Mon-Wed nights. Tonight and tomorrow are going to be tougher. I have plans tonight, so I'm going to leave work, run, and then do directly to my plans. I have an even tougher schedule tomorrow. My post-work plans don't leave me any window to run after work. I will need to either run before work, or at 10ish tomorrow night.

I will do it, though. I don't want to give $11 to bigots. I also promised myself and others that I would do it. I will probably try to take a dog with me tomorrow night, though. It's dark and cold that late at night and I'll feel safer with 80ish pounds of fur near me. I said that my minimum to consider it a run would be a 13 minute mile. I sure hope the dog can handle that pace.

I really hope that running with one dog will work, because it does not work with both of them at the same time. I have tried it a few times and they just try to kill me and each other the entire time. I can't get up any speed without risking tripping and falling. I think one of them might work, though. Plus, the dogs are a bit chubby, so running will help them, too.

Day 5C--Running

I ran my cemetery route twice tonight. The first time I ran it was with both of my dogs. That took us over 17 minutes because of all the stopping, sniffing and pooping. I don't think I'll be running with both dogs very often. It wasn't horrible, but it was difficult.
I ran the second route right after coming home and putting the dogs back in their crates. This time it only took me 12:20, which is 5.69 mph or a 4 hour 36 minute marathon. I don't have a time goal for the marathon yet, but I am starting to think of what that time might be. Just like with my first 5K last year, I think I'll set an attainable time cap and just aim to finish.

Day 104--Running

I tried running with Willie, and she is not good. She can't make it much farther than a block, and she doesn't follow a straight line at all. Once she gets a bit tuckered out, she tries to grab her leash, which is cute, but dangerous when I'm running. She dead stops in front of me and jumps at my hand to bite the leash. I will work with her to break her of that habit and to increase her stamina so we can run farther than a block.

I ran a mile on the treadmill this morning and I'm still at 8:30. That's the same pace I was at last week, which is going to make the 8:00 goal by 7/1/10 to be hard to meet. Maybe increasing the distance I run will help, too. I'm hoping to run to The Green City Market tomorrow. That's 4 miles away, and then I still have to get home. That will probably be a bus or walking. That will be my first real run longer than 3 miles.

Day 103--Otto

I'm behind 2 miles in my quest to average a mile a day in running. I spent most of Saturday painting and Sunday recovering from painting. Sadly, the last few days were spent dealing with my dog Otto getting really, really sick and having him put down yesterday. That kind of killed any desire I had to run. I decided that today's blog would be all about dogs. The other dog in the third photo is Willie, who was our back-up dog, but has now become the only dog. I hope to take her out for our first solo run tonight, but I'm not hopeful about her abilities. She tends to meander on walks, and only had a purpose when following Otto. I'm not so sure that she'll be able to run in any way that won't endanger both of us. I still have bruises from Otto's balloon attack of last Wednesday, and I'd like to avoid adding new ones to those.
