Song of the Day

This is "Don't Leave Trouble in Your Mind" by the Carolina Chocolate Drops. I first heard them on NPR a couple years ago and immediately fell in love with the sound. It's like old bluegrass, only older. This music was the inspiration for bluegrass. It's hard to hear and not at least tap your toe.

Workout Songs

I have written about songs for running in the past. Those were all songs with the word walk or run in the song. After posting today about "Sexy and I Know It" I decided to start posting songs that makes me want to move. I hope to do this on a daily basis.

I understand that some of these songs will not hold any appeal for many of you. Hopefully some will be that missing piece of your playlist. Please share your favorite workout songs with me. If I like them, I'll post them, too.

First song is "'Till I Collapse" from Eminem. I love the spoken introduction:
'Cause sometimes you just feel tired,
Feel weak, and when you feel weak, you feel like you wanna just give up.
But you gotta search within you, you gotta find that inner strength
And just pull that shit out of you and get that motivation to not give up
And not be a quitter, no matter how bad you wanna just fall flat on
your face and collapse.

Sexy and I Know It

I know this song and video aren't serious, but I still like it. The song is catchy, and we should all be this confident in ourselves. We are all sexy, we just need to realize it and own it. And we should all be as happy and sexy as George Takei. Dance like no one's watching.

Stronger

I know this isn't about fitness, but the refrain still fits. Plus, it would make a great running song. How can you hear this and not want to move more quickly and push through some discomfort?

Songs About Running

If you're looking to load up your play list with songs that are about running, instead of just songs you like, check out these lists for some guidance:

Songs with the word run or walk in the title.

Best songs about running.

Another list of songs with the word run or walk in the title.

Weirdly, there seem to be several Iron Maiden songs that fit into this category. "Run to the Hills" "Run Silent, Run Deep" "These Colours Don't Run" "Running Free" "The Lonliness of the Long Distance Runner"Iron Maiden, album cover

My brother was a HUGE Iron Maiden fan when he was in high school. I hated them. Don't know if I ever listened, though. I was mostly judging them by their scary album covers. He had posters all over his room and they freaked me out. Not that I'm an adult and am no longer scared, I think most of their songs would give me a great jolt while running.

If' you're looking to expand with some new music, Spin magazine has a free download of a song called "Marathon Runner" '

Looking through these lists has made me want to make a comprehensive list of songs with run in the title.

UPDATE: Here is the list that I've compiled. Please add any songs you want in the comments and I will add them to the list.
