Dr. Oz
I'm not a huge fan of Dr. Oz. I find his style to be a bit pandering for me. It's only within the last year that I've found him to be downright dangerous. He's considered an expert, so when he claims something as scientific, medical fact, people believe him without verifying what he said.

He's stated that muscle burns 50 times more calories than fat. The truth is 3. He was off by a lot, but many sites quote him and this number.
He's also been criticized by the FDA for using "unreliable" data in an effort to scare his viewers.
Those are just a few of the people who are upset that Dr. Oz is sometimes less than accurate.
Today, I found the above list. These are the "diet" foods he suggest people buy. It's all processed. I don't know why he wouldn't suggest people stick with his regular shopping cart (below) for all people. It's much better for everyone. Even though his "diet" list is mainly the best packaged food you can get, you're still better off with the other list.
If he had simply titled the above list "Pantry foods for when you don't have time or energy" I would not be bothered. It is a good list of things to keep around when you might not want to spend 30 minutes preparing dinner, but don't want to go for fast food. Instead of following some list by a TV celebrity, eat food as close to its natural state as possible. That will help keep your weight down and keep you healthy.

Harry Potter
As a follow-up to my TV post from earlier, here is a Harry Potter work-out. I think that some of the classroom scenes could get you a really good, sweaty workout.
If there is a movie that you watch often, you could create your own viewing workout. Just figure out which exercises you want to include and link them to certain actions you know occur in that movie. Same for TV shows. You could do 10 push-ups every time they say "They killed Kenny" while watching "South Park" If you're looking for the cues to do the workout on a program you've never watched, look to see if it has a drinking game online and convert drinks to squats and crunches.

TV
I love TV. I can sit and watch it for hours. I know that this isn't good for my body, but I don't think anyone should completely abandon all of the things they enjoy for fitness. Fitness should fit into your life, not make your life unrecognizable. At least not overnight. Over a long time, gradual changes can erode old habits and totally change your life into something completely different from what it was a few years earlier.
Before those huge changes occur, there are ways to fit fitness into your life as it currently exists. I like TV and have found ways to work out while watching TV. For some people that means running on a treadmill while watching their favorite shows. I use my bike trainer while watching shows that I want to see, but don't love. That way I'm not upset if I miss something with the noise of the trainer.
I found two workouts on Pinterest today that are specifically designed for getting in some fitness while watching TV. One is the "How I Met Your Mother" workout. It has 20 exercises, one for each minute of the show. This would work for any sitcom that is about 20 minutes long, not counting commercials. All of the exercises are standing, so you won't have to take your eyes off the television. This has the added benefit of encouraging you to keep your posture steady, instead of lazily looking at the ground.

The other workout is the TV Commercial workout. It is just a list of advertisers and a corresponding exercise to do when they're the commercial currently airing. It's a great concept, though. You could change up the list and tailor it to the type of programming you're watching. If you don't want to jog all the time, you may want to split the cars into foreign/domestic during sports.

Olympic Trials

I know I mentioned the trials earlier this week, but the excitement is building and many others are starting to talk about it, too. It's good to know that I'm not alone in my frustration over the lack of live coverage and the conflict between the delayed coverage and NFL playoffs. I think that Peter Abraham summed it up brilliantly:
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
NBC and the organizers have made a poor decision to offer no live race coverage. With what promises to be potentially one of the greatest Olympic Marathon Trials in US history, the running world, and even the non-running world deserve better.

Please read his full piece on the coverage.
