Day 9

wii, wii fit, obstacle course
I'm back under 135 pounds, and hope to keep it below the 135 line and keep it moving lower. Today I did 15 minutes of yoga and then some of the Wii cardio. I managed to clear the advanced obstacle course for the first time. I then moved on to the island cycling. Island cycling is exactly what it says it is: you cycle around an island hitting checkpoints. To cycle you move your legs up and down and steer with the controller. I cycled around the island for about 20 minutes, and burned way fewer calories than I hoped.

With the holiday weekend looming, I'm going to have to work really hard to exercise each day and not over-eat.

Day 8

wii, wii fit plus, video games
I lost a little bit more weight, but still can't seem to drink anywhere near the 70 ounces of water that's recommended. Yesterday I did 15 push-ups before I maxed out. Today I had an eye appointment, so I was limited in my workout time. I played some of the balance games to work on my core muscles. Throwing snowballs at all of my friends' miis is more enjoyable than it should be. It's not a hard-core workout, but it's better than nothing and doesn't require a special outfit.

Day 7--Diet

I'm trying to eat better and increase the amount of water I drink. On most days, I drink a couple cups of coffee in the morning and that's about the extent of beverages for the rest of the day. I know that's not healthy and that if I feel thirsty, I'm already into dehydration. On the other hand, I can't imagine drinking the standby recommendation of 64 ounces of water every day. I have heard that instead of some arbitrary amount of water, you should drink 1/2 ounce for every pound you weigh, which puts me at 67 ounces a day. I looked for "water intake calculators" online and found two. Both of them say I should drink 70 ounces a day, but one said I could get 14 ounces, 20%, of that from food, leaving me only 56 ounces to drink. 70 ounces is 2 liters. I will try to work up to that level. I'm at 2 ounces right now. :)

Day 6

I'm back down to 135 pounds; 134.9 to be exact. That's one week in and back to my start weight and a touch less. Yay!!!! I also challenged the Wii trainer in the plank. I lost, but I managed to hold it for 82 seconds. That was about all I could handle as far as working out goes, though. It turns out that the plank is one of the top 10 most effective ab exercises. Tomorrow I will challenge the Wii trainer at push-ups to see how many I can do. (I'm going to do them on my knees, because otherwise I can't do any.

Day 5--Football

The Packers are in the playoffs!! No, that has nothing to do with working out at all, but it does explain what I did with my day. I did not do anything exercise-like at all today, but didn't eat a ton of crap, either. For a football Sunday, I'd call that a tie, if not a win. Tomorrow is a regular work day, so I should be able to get a regular routine going. One of the reasons I decided to start this before New Year's was so I could ease into a routine, instead of feeling pressure to jump into it on the 1st. I felt that if I could make exercise part of my daily thoughts during the holidays, it would stick through January and maybe even into the rest of 2010.

Day 4--Measurements

I thought I should finally get my measurements taken so they're closer to a "before" than to a "during"

Upper chest: 35
Under bust: 33
Waist: 32
Hips: 39
Thigh: 21
Calf: 13
Wrist: 6
Bicep: 9

I'm not really expecting some of these numbers to change much at all. I can' see my wrist or under chest measurement moving. Calf & bicep will probably get bigger, while waist and hips get smaller.

Day 3--Xmas

So....I missed a few days. The first day was because of dead batteries, then the holidays got in my way. It cost me, too. I gained a couple of pounds and am closer to 140, than I am to 135. I reset my goal on Fit Plus today: 17 pounds in three months. That should be easily doable if I continue to work out on a regular basis. If I manage to hit my goal weight, I would have a BMI right in the middle of the "normal" range. Today I focused on my core muscles, and I'm sure that I'll feel it tomorrow. I tried a few new yoga moves that weren't in the original Wii fit.

Day 2--measurements

I'm still trying to state my goals in objective terms rather than the subjective "perfect" I know that I want my weight and BMI to drop, but that's not very clear. I could lose weight without firming up at all. I decided to look into all the different measurements that are taken when a body wrap is done to get to claims of 10-20 inches lost in an hour. There are 18 different measurements taken for that calculation: jawline, neckline, upper chest, under bust, waist, abdomen, buttocks, hips, thighs, knee, calf, thigh, forearm, and wrist. On a weight-lifting website, I found this list of measurements: Neck, Shoulder, Bicep, Chest, Waist, Hips , Thigh, and Calf. After comparing those, it sounds like I should measure every place on my body that can store any fat or build any muscle. That's a lot of measuring.

Day 2--exercises

I worked out using Wii Fit plus for 44 minutes and 128 calories. I tried the "Balance Bridge" for the first time. I'm sure I'm going to be feeling that tomorrow.

Day 1--workout

I did some of the Wii Fit Plus workouts for 31 minutes and burned 65 calories. It's been a few months since I've worked out on a regular basis, so I'm actually a little winded and my arms hurt. I also did sit-ups which I can feel. OW!!

Day 1--Base measurements

I currently weight 135.6 pounds, which makes my BMI 24.02. That puts my BMI within the "healthy weight" range, but on the higher end of it. A BMI of 25 is considered "overweight" I would like my BMI to be closer to 21, which makes my goal weight about 119 pounds.

Waist: 32 inches
Hips: 39 inches
My waist to hip ratio is .82, which puts me in the "elevated risk" category for heart disease and diabetes. It looks like I need to lose a little bit around my waist, or make my butt bigger to improve the ratio.

http://www.healthcentral.com/cholesterol/home-body-fat-test-2774-143.html is a site that allows you to determine you body fat percentage without any specialized tests. I have 29% body fat. 39.4 Pounds of fat and 96.6 Pounds of lean (muscle, bone, body water). Again, it's in the healthy range, but on the higher end.

I will remeasure my waist & hips every few weeks. I hope to update my weight at least once a week.
